The Geelong Gaol Museum
Looking for things to do in Geelong for families ? We have the perfect place to visit – the Geelong Gaol Museum.
The Geelong Gaol Museum is housed in the former H.M. Geelong Gaol.
About the Geelong Gaol Museum
It showcases the history of the Gaol which has overlooked the township of Geelong for over 170 years, and the men, women and children who spent time behind the walls.
The Geelong Gaol opened its doors in April 1853 and continuously operated in one form or another for 138 years being the longest continually operated gaol in Victoria.
Since its closure in 1991 it has been used as the location of a number of films and television series.
Our first exhibition highlighting 5 prisoners – Rogues & Vagabonds of the Geelong Gaol – is now open.
Today it is open as a Museum on weekends, every day of the school holidays and public holidays.
